History

The oldest part of the hotel dates from around 1890, a period when Davos began its development as a resort town.

From 1870 to 1910 the small village of two thousand people grew into an Alpine town of about ten thousand.

The name of the hotel still retains the name of the original owners, who always worked for the growth of the facility.

Since the early 1900s Davos has developed not only as a resort but also, given its Alpine climate, as a curative destination for respiratory diseases.

After World War I, the economic crisis led to the loss of European clientele, so the Meierhof was renamed Hotel-Pension to appear more affordable and continue to attract customers.

In 1931 the Parsennbahn alpine railway was built and not long after that the ice rink and toboggan run at Schatzalp, making Davos the temple for winter sports and giving the facility the opportunity to change its name to Sport Hotel.

Ownership from 2011 to the present

Since 1898, when the first of the three Meier generations took over the oldest part of the Hotel, all succeeding owners have always set themselves the goal of continuous growth and improvement even in the most difficult historical times.

Wanting to preserve the hotel’s original name, the new ownership intends to maintain the philosophy of growth while respecting the tradition that has always distinguished the hotel, at the same time wanting to bring an innovative and sporty atmosphere under the banner of combining Swiss excellence with Italian culture.

The renovated rooms will maintain the strong connection to the hotel’s history, both in the choice of wooden furnishings and the inclusion of hand-painted decor inspired by the lines of ancient graffiti, found in few buildings in the city today.

The new image of the Meierhof aims to preserve the architectural evidence of the place with the inclusion of modern comfort, to ensure maximum benefits of vacationing in our hotel.

But the Meierhof will remain what it has always been: a little gem of an Alpine hotel, an oasis of peace in modern, fast-paced Davos.
